Self Control

Full speed and full power, without hurting the person in front of you. At WSKF, self control is how students learn how not to fight.

01At WSKF

Full speed. Full power. No one hurt.

Every WSKF student practises self control. In partner work, techniques are performed at high speed and with full power, yet stop short of hurting a training partner. That is how students learn to respect each other and themselves.

Karate is not about aggression. The strongest do not need to fight at all.

02In training

Pause, choose, act

Self control is not one big moment. It shows in small ones, in every class.

  1. Pause

Be quiet and patient, and do not talk out of turn.

  2. Choose

Students learn to make quick decisions.

  3. Act

Then move at high speed and with full power, without hurting your training partner.

Discipline you can see

Training teaches discipline, patience and control, alongside respect for yourself and one another.

04Beyond the dojo

Knowing how not to fight

WSKF teaches students how to fight, and more importantly how not to fight. Self-defence is part of the training, but the aim is to resolve conflict without it becoming physical.

Knowing you could, and choosing not to, is self control.
