01Who we are

A large family that likes to train together.

WSKF Australia is run by Grant and Sheela Rollinson with a group of instructors, many of whom have trained with Grant from their earliest beginnings. Grant began teaching at his first club in 1988 and is the organisation's Principal Instructor.

WSKF Australia teaches six age groups, from Little Tigers at four to adults of 75 and over, on one black belt syllabus.

02Why we exist

An organisation purely for the development of traditional Shotokan karate-do, personal etiquette and good character.

WSKF Australia's statement of purpose

Where the money goes

All sponsorships, donations and fundraising projects go to supporting our members and competitors, at local, national and international karate events. Our competitors at many of our clubs regularly win gold, silver and bronze medals at local, national and international events.

Non-political. Non-religious.

The World Shotokan Karate-do Federation's Establishment Declaration, dated 1 June 1990, rejects prejudice and discrimination, takes no position on religion or politics, and promotes friendship and understanding.

One federation, one way of teaching

WSKF Australia is a registered member of the World Shotokan Karate-do Federation, WSKF Japan, now present in more than 100 countries. Members from around the world come together to train, compete and socialise.

Grant Rollinson has trained under the federation's founder and Chief Instructor, Sensei Hitoshi Kasuya, since 1998. The calligraphy above is Grant's own brushwork of the federation's name.

04How our clubs work

What makes us different

  • Quality instruction

Quality instructors at the right price, with one-to-one guidance when a student needs it.

  • Progress, continually monitored

Every student's progress is monitored continually as they train.

  • Fees talked through with you

Fees vary with age, family size and needs, and several discounts are available, so the club prefers to talk fees through with you.

  • Gear at member prices

Uniforms and protective gear cost members less than shop prices, and advice on what to buy is free.

05The people

Instructors who came up through the club

Grant and Sheela Rollinson

Grant Rollinson, 6th Dan, is Principal Instructor. He works with his wife, Sheela Rollinson, 3rd Dan. Many of the assistant instructors have trained under Grant from their earliest beginnings and now teach as black belts.

Sponsor a competitor

We fundraise throughout the year for our competition team members, who compete at local, national and international events. If you would like to sponsor a student, we would love to hear from you.
