02In class

What happens in class

  1. 01

    Safe training practices

Instructors are trained and qualified in Shotokan karate, and they make sure the right equipment is used at all times, so you can feel confident about how your child is taught.

  2. 02

A good workout, and more learning than they realise

Exercises are fun, interactive and challenging for every student. Children get a good workout, and pick up more than they notice.

  3. 03

    Patient, personal attention

Instructors are patient and supportive at all times. They give one-to-one guidance and keep each child learning at a pace that suits them.

03Strengths

What they develop

Little Tigers classes are designed to develop each student's strengths, in three connected areas.

  1. Body

    • Overall body strength
    • Balance
    • Coordination
    • Flexibility
    • Agility

Linked items are among the eight WSKF principles, and each has its own page.

04Learning through movement

Having fun makes learning easier

Young students in white gi practising punches side by side in class

Little Tigers builds every strength above through exercises that are fun, interactive and challenging, in a safe and supportive class where learning stays enjoyable.

Not every child finds every part of karate easy, so instructors are patient and supportive, and let each child learn at their own pace rather than expecting the whole class to move at once.

05The path ahead

The first step on one black belt syllabus

Little Tigers is the first of six age groups that share one syllabus. At eight, students move up to Juniors, where classes ask them to think a lot more about everything they do.

  2. 8–12 Juniors More depth and more partner work, and learning to lead as well as follow. Juniors
  3. 13–19 Teens Demanding, fast-paced training, with something new in every class. Teens
  4. 20–75+ Adults Three adult groups, from 20 to 75 and over. All age groups
