Good manners

How we treat each other. At WSKF, good manners and dojo etiquette are part of every class, from please and thank you to addressing people correctly.

  • Instructors

Respect for the people who teach you

Students learn to treat their instructors with respect and to address people correctly.

  • Training partners

The same respect for your peers

Peers are treated with the same respect, mixed in with having fun and making friends.

  • Everyone in the room

    Small courtesies

Students practise being polite, not talking out of turn, and walking rather than running.

02Dojo etiquette

Small habits, practised every class

  • Please
  • Thank you
  • Address people correctly
  • Be polite
  • Do not talk out of turn
  • Walk, do not run

Good manners start with please and thank you. They are social skills, and like any skill they need proper training and guidance. In the dojo, that training happens every class.

03Beyond the dojo

Etiquette and good character

WSKF Australia exists for the development of traditional Shotokan karate, personal etiquette and good character. Learning good manners and addressing people correctly sets the stage for positive behaviour, in training and out of it.

Club life is part of it too. WSKF Australia describes itself as a large family that likes to train together.
