01Who it suits

Most adults can learn karate

Nothing about karate makes it too hard for most adults. It suits adults in several situations.

Starting from scratch
No martial arts background at all. Every technique is taught step by step, with one-to-one help when you need it.
Coming back
You trained as a child and stopped. You pick it up again on the same syllabus.
Short on time for fitness
Every lesson is a workout, and something you want to turn up for, even if you have never been a gym person.
Looking for something lasting
Karate is a lifelong pursuit. Whether you start at 4, 14 or 40, there is always more to learn.

03What you learn

Something new in almost every class

  1. 01

    Technique

Kihon (punches, blocks and kicks), kata (set patterns against opponents from several directions) and kumite (sparring with a fellow club member).

  2. 02

    Focus

Every move is detailed. Training asks for your full attention for the length of the class.

  3. 03

    Fitness and self-defence

Strength and flexibility built through training, and the confidence to handle conflict without it becoming physical.

04Questions

Before your first class

Am I too old to start karate in my thirties or forties?

No. It is never too late for adults to start, and classes are taught step by step at a pace that suits you.

I have not exercised in years. Is that a problem?

No. You start where you are, and every lesson is a workout. If you have a health condition or injury, check with your doctor first and tell your instructor.

Can my children and I both train?

Yes. Choose "A family" in the enquiry and the club will suggest classes for each age. Ask the club how classes are arranged at your venue.

What does it cost?

The club will talk you through fees when you enquire.
