What sets us apart

Eight things worth knowing.

These features reflect the Family Day Care model and help explain how it differs from centre-based care. They are worth setting out plainly, because the differences are not always obvious from the outside.

01

Small groups

Family day care operates with small groups of children. In practice that means smaller groups, with more opportunity for an educator to respond to each child individually.

02

Home-like settings

Care takes place in a family home rather than a purpose-built centre. The smaller-scale, home-based environment can feel familiar and offers opportunities for children to build close relationships with their educator.

03

Qualified educators

Care is delivered by qualified early childhood education and care educators working within approved family day care environments, supporting children’s learning, development and wellbeing.

04

Individual attention

Because the group is small, an educator can come to know each child well — their routine, what they are working on, and what kind of day they have had.

05

Flexibility for families

Families can discuss the hours they need, subject to educator availability and individual care arrangements.

06

Parks and libraries

Regular visits to local parks and libraries are part of the week. Children get space to move, stories to sit with, and the ordinary experience of being out in their own neighbourhood.

07

School transport support

School pick-up and drop-off support may be available depending on the educator, school and agreed family arrangements. It is worth raising early when you enquire.

08

CCS approved

Inspired Kids Family Day Care is Child Care Subsidy approved. Eligibility and the amount your family may receive are determined by Services Australia, and we have linked their information on our resources page.

At a glance

What makes family day care different?

Family day care is an approved form of early childhood education and care delivered in a family home by qualified educators. It sits under the same national regulatory system as centre-based care; what differs is the setting and the scale.

Smaller groups, a home-based environment, opportunities for close relationships with an educator, connection to the local community, and care hours that can be discussed subject to educator availability. Whether that suits you depends on your child and your circumstances; it suits some families and not others.
